Mambo or Joomla! - 2006/02/01 23:00
All folks interested in Mambo, have by now probably found out that the Mambo community has split in two groups. After a major argument between the core developer group and the Miro the initial backer of this open source project, a branch has formed called "Joomla!'.
Off course both sides where quite angry and every party accused the other one of playing foul. Particularly, the motives for doing business and making money based on the product was disputed. Interestingly, both groups predicted that the other one will not survive.
Well, as of about six month later, both groups are alive and doing just fine. Sure the Mambo community is not its former self, as many people have defected. However it appears that further development progresses and as I can attest the foundation is quite solid. Somewhat surprisingly, both groups strive to develop similar functionality in 2006.
Obviously BostonPHP.org has decided to go with the rebels and converted to Joomla!.
I just started a new project on the side and decided to choose Joomla! for no particular reason but to see if it already makes a difference. I'm impressed by the amount of templates and components that have already converted and support Joomla!. It appears most have moved over and only a few seem to plan to support both platforms.
Just my observations from the last 2 days of searching and catching up.
